Fostering Youth Empowerment and Innovation: The First National Youth Summit in Balochistan

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province, recently made history by hosting the First National Youth Summit from June 18th to June 20th, 2023. The event, organized by the Government of Balochistan’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with the Chanan Development Association (CDA) Pakistan, gathered over 350 enthusiastic young participants from 90 districts across the nation. This milestone initiative aimed to empower the youth, foster innovation, and facilitate robust dialogue on issues critical to the future of Pakistan.

Under the theme of “Harnessing Youth Potential for a Resilient Future: Navigating Challenges, Driving Change,” the summit emphasized the aspirations, dreams, and innovative ideas of young people from across Pakistan, amplifying their voices and recommendations to address social, economic, and political challenges and strengthen their leadership to become catalysts for positive change in their communities.

Under the esteemed leadership and presence of distinguished guests, including Babar Yusufzai, spokesperson for the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Nawabzada Jamal Khan Raisani, Coordinator for Youth Affairs and Mr. Abdul Khaliq Hazara Minister Sports and Youth Affair Government of Balochistan the National Youth Summit commenced with an inaugural ceremony filled with anticipation and promise. Notable guests included; Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Convener of the Parliamentary Task Force for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Mr. Ishaq Jamali, Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and Mr Muhammad Shahzad Khan Executive Director of Chanan Development Association (CDA) Executive Director of Chanan Development Association (CDA), as well as Mr. Abbas Ali Khosa, Director of Youth Affairs, and Muhammad Mustafa, Assistant Director.

The thought-provoking discussions not only enriched the participants’ knowledge but also ignited their inspiration to proactively drive positive change.

The National Youth Summit kicked off with the enlightening Grass-root Voices session, skillfully moderated by Balochistan’s young activist and entrepreneur, Mr. Khalid Hussain Mir. During this session, inspiring young activists Zamran Baloch, Sehrish Kanwal, Aqila Yousafi, and Alisha Sherazi captivated the audience with their compelling stories of struggle and resilience.

Nawabzada Jamal Khan Raisani, Coordinator for Youth Affairs, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Chann Development Association for spearheading this unprecedented summit. Raisani reiterated his commitment to expedite the approval of the Balochistan Youth Policy in the Provincial Assembly, ensuring the voices and aspirations of the youth are integrated into policy frameworks. The comprehensive Youth Policy Framework will empower the youth to lead Balochistan towards prosperity and contribute to the nation’s sustainable development.

The First National Youth Summit, brought together a diverse lineup of influential personalities from various fields. Esteemed speakers, such as former MPA and central leader of the National Party, Ms. Yasmin Lehri, dedicated social activists & young influencers including Mr. Jahangir Bazai, Jayya Kanwal Jagi, Nimra Pirkani, Mir Balach Khan, along with other notable political and social leaders, took the stage to share their valuable insights. Moreover, the summit was graced by the enlightening addresses of Ex-Senator Mir Kabir Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Ex-Speaker Balochistan Assembly Ms. Rahila Durani, and Provincial Chief of SAMEDA Balochistan Mr. Shakoor Ahmed Baloch. Their engaging discussions not only expanded participants’ knowledge but also ignited the spark for proactive action towards driving positive change.
